Mini Transportation Planning Grant Cycle for Municipalities

We are excited to announce the opening of SORTPO’s Mini Transportation Planning Grant Cycle for Municipalities to secure funding for transportation planning projects. The primary purpose of this transportation planning grant is to support planning projects that enhance connectivity and accessibility, safety, and community engagement in a city/town. Previously funded projects include: Street Inventory, Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan, Trails Plan, Main Street/Downtown corridor streetscape, GIS development and Active Living Plan. 

Application Process 

  1. Use THIS LINK (http://bit.ly/SPRgrant) to submit your application. Certain documents will need to be mailed separately to julie@swoda.org. Both the online application and additional documentation are due no later than March 1, 2024, 2024, 5:00 pm CST.
  2. Within 30 workdays of application closing date the applications will be reviewed by staff and forwarded to the SORTPO Transportation Technical Committee and SORTPO Transportation Policy Board for consideration no later than the April 25, 2024, meeting. Applicants will be notified in writing within 5 days of the SORTPO Transportation Policy Board’s action
  3. The successful applicants will enter into a funding agreement with SWODA. Work on the project cannot begin until two original signed agreements have been signed by the applicant and SWODA. One original signed agreement will be provided to the applicant. If awarded grant, details about reporting and reimbursement will be sent with the contract.
  4. The maximum SPR funding is $25,000. Reminder: This is a reimbursement grant. Awardees will pay for the planning project, submit invoice(s) with proof of payment, and submit monthly progress reports to Julie Sanders at julie@swoda.org. Allow approximately 90 days from date of submission of invoices for reimbursement process to be completed.

  • Engineering cost estimate, scope of work and signed contract (contract must include “transportation planning services”).
  • Funding commitment letter or council resolution (see reminder in #4 above).
  • Up to 3 letters of support for the planning grant.
  • Copy of most recent audit or financial statement.
